ABOUT

Welcome, Kindred Spirit
I am Valerie Merritt—a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBHWC), Holistic Sound & Energy Healing Facilitator, Advanced Yoga & Meditation Teacher, and Ceremonialist. This work is the authentic reflection of learning how to realign my own life, purpose, and voice from the inside out.
The Foundation: Interweaving Intellect and Intuition
My relationship with expression began early. Long before formal training, I simply loved using my voice; I loved the physical sensation of it being alive inside my body, and I loved magnifying its reach.
This lifelong passion led me to study voice and choral singing during my undergraduate Music Education degree. Yet, standing on a traditional stage as a performer left me feeling profoundly misaligned. My sense of purpose didn't live in self-expression for an audience; it blossomed when I was helping children learn music and giving them performance experiences of their own. Still, the deeper alignment of my vocal gift didn't fully click into place until much later, when my spiritual studies and mystery school immersions revealed my voice for what it truly is: a healing tool.
Armed with an educational foundation and a love of learning containers, I spent years navigating the high-output world of public school systems, serving more than a thousand students some years. I intimately understand the unique stressors educators and high-yield professionals face daily—from the endless giving of early-morning choirs to the physical strain of moving a classroom to a mobile cart and a trailer.
When I paused my career to focus on early motherhood, my world shifted into a season of quiet, subterranean expansion. While the outer world saw a mother anchored at home, my inner landscape was ablaze with deep study and creative exploration. I devoted myself fully to my children, focusing intensely on unlearning unhealthy ancestral patterns in my parenting to break generational cycles. Concurrently, I explored my voice through unpublished poetry—penning over 2,000 poems for my own personal exploration and satisfaction—and began deeply studying personal astrology, unlocking the profound synchronicity between planetary movements and our human potential. I was meticulously mapping out my own inner landscape, preparing the scaffolding that would ultimately hold a new way of being.
Then, a sudden, major life restructuring forced a pivotal crossroads. Driven to protect my two children’s stability while redefining my professional path, I chose a graduate program that supported my children’s lifestyle, allowing me to remain present in their classrooms while pursuing higher learning. Earning my Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) served as a profound mirror, reminding me of my capacity for enriching research and independent intellectual depth.
While I initially intended to write arts integration curriculum, the space of graduate school allowed me to deeply align with the foundational importance of wellness within education. Having the temporal and emotional space to prioritize my own physical well-being illuminated how deeply systemic and socioeconomic factors dictate wellness, sparking a fire within me to make high-level well-being accessible to those who need it most. My focus shifted entirely to mindfulness and systemic wellness for educators. I realized that true sustainability in education means nurturing the whole person—because a regulated, supported educator naturally cultivates an unshakeable learning environment.
Yet, this realization quickly expanded far beyond the walls of a traditional classroom. I recognized that the systemic need to coach the whole person in wellness applies to all of humanity. The principles of nervous system regulation, somatic restoration, and alignment are universal truths. I began to see that everyone is an educator, regardless of their intent. We are all continuously teaching one another through the way we live, and every relationship we navigate serves as a profound teacher. With this clarity, my mission expanded: these offerings are not just for school systems, but for everyone ready to step into their own conscious expansion.

The Turning Point: Systemic Wellness & Accessibility
While coaching a brilliant colleague during my graduate studies, a stark truth became clear: on paper, educators have all the right answers—but the systemic weight of their environments makes it incredibly difficult to live them out. True sustainability in education requires nurturing the whole person. You simply cannot separate the professional from the human being.
This realization lit a fire within me to make high-level well-being accessible to those who need it most. My focus completely shifted from traditional arts integration to the study of mindfulness, somatic restoration, and systemic wellness for teachers. When we regulate and support the educator, we naturally cultivate an unshakeable learning environment that upholds the ultimate potential of both teacher and student.
Walking Through the Doors of Divine Timing
To build a fully accredited framework for this work, the universe opened a series of synchronized doors and each time something in the external invited me to the study:
-
Duke Integrative Medicine: I completed my advanced training in Health & Wellness Coaching during a massive national field standardization, securing my board credential as an NBHWC.
-
Advanced Somatic Lineages: I completed a rigorous, trauma-informed 300-hour Kundalini and Meditation Teacher Training, specializing in a deeply feminine approach that honors natural moon cycles, followed by advanced studies in Kundalini Dance.
-
Acoustic & Energetic Alignment: I trained deeply in the subtle sciences of Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and multi-instrument sound facilitation—beautifully marrying my lifetime musical lineage with certified somatic restoration.
-
Holy Fire® Reiki: I immersed myself in this powerful energetic lineage, establishing it as a core pillar of the restorative, subtle energy work I now facilitate for clients both in person and virtually.

Mothered by the Wild: Nature-Based Restoration
Following these somatic paths, I felt a deep, magnetic pull to train as a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. Mother Nature became my ultimate sanctuary during a season of profound personal restructuring. In moments when human care felt distant or complex, the forest held me like nothing else could.
As a mother who had spent years pouring out care for others, I discovered what it meant to be truly mothered myself—by the quiet protection of the woods, the steady rhythm of running creek water, and the ancient grounding of the rocks. Through this deep communion with the wild, I learned to listen to the innate wisdom of my physical body, moving through the world with a renewed sense of agility, trust, and physical sovereignty.
This alignment naturally led my private recording practices out into the open. My voice found its public purpose once more as I began writing, scoring, and recording my own guided meditations to share with the world.
The Ceremonial Vessel & Your Present Invitation
This deep reclamation naturally led me into the study of sacred feminine mysteries and leadership, serving as a Temple Mentor to hold a sacred, intimate space for smaller circles of women as they navigate their own deep processes of self-reclaiming.
To anchor these cosmic, natural, and somatic tools into tangible, earthly milestones, I stepped into the role of a ceremonialist and ritual alchemist. What began as a heartfelt mission to facilitate the marriage ceremony for my sister and her husband unlocked a deep passion for sacred space holding. From that foundation, I began crafting bespoke rituals, life-transition ceremonies, and sacred celebrations that beautifully mark life's most meaningful thresholds.
Today, I use my dual expertise as a master educator, a board-certified health coach, a Temple Mentor, and an advanced holistic practitioner to help both individuals and school communities trade survival mode for true vitality. I learned firsthand how to put my own heart back at the wheel during life’s most turbulent storms. Now, I am honored to help you cultivate the poise, grace, and purity of spirit required to bridge your own shadow and light, reclaim your sovereignty, and activate sustainable, unapologetic joy right here in the present moment. Because each present moment is the life.
